Admission Process

All students must reside within the approved geographic boundary area for the school in which they enroll. New students must show proof of residency. Acceptable documents include current utility bills, sales or lease agreements, driver's license, voter registration certificate, or other legal documents.

A child must be enrolled by the child's parent, guardian, or other person with legal control under a court order. A student must be identified by their legal surname as it appears on their birth certificate, other proof of identity document, or a court order changing the student's name.

The board may allow a person showing evidence of legal responsibility for a child — other than a court order — to substitute for a guardian or other person having lawful control of the child.

The district shall enroll a child without required documentation if the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services (DPRS) has taken possession of the child. DPRS shall ensure required documentation is furnished to the district no later than 30 days after enrollment.

A student placed in foster care whose foster parents reside in the district shall be permitted to attend district schools free of charge and may fully participate in all district-sponsored activities. No durational residency requirement shall be used to prohibit participation.

The district may not charge tuition for a student domiciled in another state who resides in military housing located within the district but exempt from district taxation.

If a student has been expelled from another district, the district may: continue the expulsion under the terms of the order; place the student in an alternative education program for the period specified; or allow the student to attend regular classes without completing the expulsion period.
